Oceans suffocating as huge dead zones quadruple since 1950, scientists warn

Areas starved of oxygen in open ocean and by coasts have soared in recent decades, risking dire consequences for marine life and humanity

Ocean dead zones with zero oxygen have quadrupled in size since 1950, scientists have warned, while the number of very low oxygen sites near coasts have multiplied tenfold. Most sea creatures cannot survive in these zones and current trends would lead to mass extinction in the long run, risking dire consequences for the hundreds of millions of people who depend on the sea.read more

For thousands of years, parts of northwest Europe have enjoyed a climate about 5C warmer than many other regions on the same latitude. But new scientific analysis suggests that that could change much sooner and much faster than thought possible.

Sorry for delays in posting . We’ve had a roller coaster ride of a year here in 2017 . Next year should promise much more information , pics , events and most of all progress .
So far the reef here in Lobo is now a sanctuary , collectors on the beaches and in the bay are in progress . The pier and boardwalk are in planning stage . It’s the beginning of the holiday season so we’ll be monitoring the garbage at resorts along the beaches and ocean .
